Oh blog where have I been?

Yes, it's been since December 1st that I posted last. Neglecting my poor blog. This last 1-2 months has just been a blur. I used to blog when Addie was asleep -- either after she went to bed, or before she got up. But I'm so exhausted in the evenings now that I can rarely stay awake later than her, and if I do, I'm usually pushing through a few rows of a knitting project (they're just so addicting -- I'll post some pics of recent accomplishments soon). That, and Loren has a tendency to be a bit of a computer hog at night. :) I also used to get some time before she woke up in the morning, but she just doesn't seem to sleep much past the time I wake up. So here I am at 5am on a Saturday, blogging. I've actually been up since 4am. Not sure why, just can't go back to sleep. Maybe staring at a computer screen will lull me back into it . . .

SO much to catch up on! This is also my other problem with blogging - I delay so long that once I get to it, I have to write a novel. I think about blogs to write all the time, I just never sit down to do it. Let's see, what has happened since December 1 . . .

Obviously we had Christmas in there at some point. It was a fairly quiet Christmas this year -- not the running around to 20 places like usual. My Grandma Dean didn't have her usual weekend-before get-together, as she just had knee surgery. Christmas Eve we had made early plans with Robin and Hutch (at Thanksgiving), so we spent the evening there -- unfortunately Rick also made his plans on Christmas Eve (unexpectedly), so we missed that part of the family. My mom and Dominic were still in Washington (bummer!), and my Grandma Lola decided not to have the crazy get-together at her house, so we just spent Christmas day at Denise's with my dad. Addie had a great time -- she got so into each gift that it actually took her a few days to open everything. :) Pictures to come.

We also had Christmas "break" in there, but ours wasn't much of a break. BSU started offering a winter intersession this year -- 3-week classes offered between Fall and Spring semesters -- and guess who just had to volunteer??? I decided to teach Medical Terminology, which was the first time I had done it in that short of a time period, and also the first time I had taught it in person. Between squeezing in that (3 hours of teaching everyday, starting at 8:30am -- not including prep time and grading), attempting to finish other work projects that I had saved for "break" (including two articles and IRB apps), Christmas, the GRE, and Loren's work schedule, we had a crazy few weeks. I did take the last week of December off, but that was pretty much just a recovery week (and GRE study cram session) so I could hit it hard again. Now we are back into the Spring semester, and this will reflect on my break -- I was looking forward to the calmness of the regular semester! :) I do think I'll teach during the intersession again, just not while I'm pregnant (or have a newborn -- I've already declined for next year).

On the pregnancy front, everything is going great and we found out we're having a boy!! Super excited! I think I get a little more excited everyday as I see other little boys and start looking at boy clothes. I think there is an obnoxious amount of unnecessary junk that we insist on buying for babies (a lesson I've learned with Addie), and yes, clothes are included, but I just can't help it! They're so darn cute! I really haven't done much shopping, just one short day of thrift store hunting, but with my newfound network of moms, the hand-me-downs are coming in. :) He is definitely a Sand boy -- he is moving constantly, I could swear he's doing backflips in there! What did we get ourselves into? :) At least it's not FOUR Sand boys (sorry Robin)! I'm not doing a pic update in this blog, but it was requested I show a pic of the belly, so here it is:

I know it's not the best pic -- I've been really bad about taking pics this time. I'll get more, I promise. :)

Addie is doing fantastic. Developmentally, I'm not sure there's a huge change since December (at least in terms of big milestones). She still isn't talking, but she at least nods/shakes yes/no, which is a big help in determining what she wants. She may not be verbalizing what she wants, but she definitely knows! She eats pretty much all day long, but is still a petite little thing (although she is wearing 2T pants now). I actually don't think she's that small -- she's in the age-appropriate clothes and doesn't looked dwarfed by other kids her age, but I'm sure according to the "charts" she's only like the 4th percentile -- who came up with those anyway? And if that's true, why do they size clothes the way they do? I think she's perfect and that's all that matters. :) She finally stopped nursing -- hallelujah! :) Don't get me wrong, I loved breastfeeding, but it was time. My cut-off was the age of 2, and I was really hoping she'd self-wean before that. With the pregnancy it just became so cumbersome and a little painful, so I was definitely ready. I'm slowly getting back a bit more energy (and we're all sleeping better now). She is definitely a toddler now, and we try to do regular playdates -- weeks may include Carl's Jr, Rafiki's, Boise Friends Church (a recently discovered playgroup for only $1.25 and good, cheap snacks), the library, or the park. She's getting much more outgoing. If you didn't catch my lovely Facebook post, a recent story includes her stealing a wallet from a lady's purse at the library, running away with it, tripping, hitting her face on the floor, and sending the contents of the wallet flying (which I then had to gather while holding a screaming toddler and pathetically apologizing to the woman). Nice and embarrassing for mom. :) Okay, I know I said I wasn't doing pics, but I can't not post a pic of her. :)

She smiles for the camera now, which I just love. I can't wait for some nice weather so we can get some pics outside. Oh, and my cousin Shannon is now doing photography, so I can't wait until she's back (from Atlanta) to get Addie pics, belly pics, and newborn pics. :) I love pictures . . .

I FINALLY got my PhD application sent in this week (just squeaking by the deadline). It had been stressing me out for the past couple weeks. I think I just picked a bad time (not that I have any power over the deadline), with the chaos of the winter break. I did okay on the GRE quantitative and verbal sections, but got a 5.5 out of 6 on the analytical, so I was super excited about that! I'm feeling pretty good about it, so all we can do now is wait and see . . .

Unfortunately we haven't had all good news recently. We just found out Loren's Grandpa Sand suffered two strokes and, while in the hospital, was found to have multiple masses in his chest. He is stable and home now, but we're missing him (and Grandma) tremendously and trying to figure out when we can get down to see them. They're in our thoughts constantly . . .

I think that's most of what I needed to update, so I'm going to end there. Pics will be coming soon.

Today was Sufficient

Do you ever have days where you felt totally worthless? I'm feeling accomplished today. I like those days. :) I got a load of dishes done (although I wish it were 2), walked the dogs, cleaned the living room, dropped off all of my gifts at the WCA, got a swimsuit coverup for my big butt and a re-usable swim diaper for Addie (Y, here we come!), made dinner, watched a pretty good movie (when I get movies stacking up from Netflix, yes, it is an accomplishment to get one watched -- FYI it was The Proposal and it was pretty funny), and got some schoolwork done. Now if I can just get a load of laundry put away . . . :)

Tomorrow we drop the Subaru off to get the brakes worked on -- which needs done badly! I had an appointment in September, but then was contemplating trading it in for a van, so I didn't want to waste the money. But we've decided to keep the Sub until we really outgrow it, so it's time. Oil change as well.

Thursday is finally our ultrasound! I'm excited but nervous at the same time. I'm anxious to know my actual due date and how everything's going, but a little nervous because this will be the first evidence of an actual live being, other than peeing on a stick. Hope everything is okay! I'll be sure to post Thursday after my appointment to update. I'm really hoping there aren't two in there like a few people have suggested! Eek! ;)

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for my wonderful family and friends. I am thankful that I get to eat lots of delicious food today and everyday. I may complain about gaining 10 pounds but at least I have food to eat. I am thankful for my home, be it the mess that it is. I am thankful I can provide for my family and buy Addie way too many cute clothes -- I'm even thankful I can buy her hideous ceramic cats and reslin dogs. I am thankful for my health, and especially thankful for the health of my family and friends. I am thankful for a job that takes a lot of time but feels good to do. I am thankful to be able to take classes that make me procrastinate and stress out. I am thankful for dogs that make me get off my butt and walk them in the cold. I am thankful that I have enough to spare, to give back to those who don't. I am thankful for a wonderful hubby who is doing the dishes right now and for my currently sleeping toddler. I am thankful for the freedom to complain about the government, oppose the current war, and be eager for national healthcare. I am thankful to be able to avoid Black Friday, to gripe about the commercialization of the holidays, and to strive to boycott, or "girlcott" as my friend Gwynne would say, corporations that have overtaken small and local businesses. And yes, I am thankful for this computer that has become my lifeblood (sad to say) that takes too much of my time. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pic Post

I have been majorly slacking on posting pics here because I usually just post to Facebook. But I know there are some not on Facebook so I wanted to do a quick pic update post. I still have more to catch up on, but wanted to post some from October.

Cassie, Addie, and I went to the corn maze in Kuna.

Here's Addie in the corn pit.

Here is the only sad pic I got of the pig races.
Addie and Cassie checking out the view.
We made it! I think it took us less than an hour, if I remember right. But I'll admit we had a map. Hey, that was still with a toddler in tow, and that map was no easy feat!
Checkin' out the big chair.
Hey, Addie, how about a smile?
She loved running away from me in the pumpkin patch.

We got a giant bag of kettle corn that was quite delicious, I must say. Addie insisted on packing it around. It was the size of her!

She also got to ride in the cow cars.
She may not look it here, but she loved it! She waved at us everytime she came around. She was just munching on her snack bar.

Here's just a couple pics from the park when we went to have lunch with Daddy.

I was attempting to get a pic to announce our new arrival, but after getting this I realized that maybe not everyone would get "sissy". So I tried it again with "sister", but never got a decent pic.
Boo at the Zoo.

She was a little puppy dog, although some thought lion and I think someone even said squirrel. It came with ears, but she's so anti-hat I didn't even bother.
She was the only one that didn't smile on that little tiger.

Being cheesy.

She liked playing with the leaves in the park.

Okay, I think that's enough pics for now. Update on Addie -- she's still not talking, but she's running around like crazy and getting into everything. She likes climbing lately, which drives Loren crazy. She really likes baby dolls now and still loves animals. We went to DI the other day for me to look at maternity clothes (BTW, they do have them, but man they are ugly!) and looked at all the toys -- she originally picked a plastic toy cat but on our way out the store she threw that down to grab a creepy ceramic cat. It was a $1 so I figured what the hey. She loves that thing! She packs it around everywhere and sleeps with it. A ceramic cat -- who knew? She had a doctor's appointment last week. She weighs 20 lbs, which is only the 3rd percentile (hey, up from the 1st percentile), but she's 31 inches tall, which is the 31st percentile. So, looks like she'll be a little taller than me, but I think she'll be a skinny mini too. She is becoming more social and is really bonding with family, especially her grandpa's and even Uncle Sean, which is nice. I'm looking forward to the holidays for her to see all her relatives.

Update date on baby #2 -- sorry, don't have much of one. I did go to the doctor a few weeks ago, but it was too soon to tell anything. I did decide that we're going to use Treasure Valley Midwives this time and I'm really excited about it. I have an ultrasound scheduled in 2 weeks and then we'll know how far along I am. I told Loren I secretly want to be further along only because I already have a belly and want to have that excuse! :) I'm up 10 lbs already, so I finally got us a membership to the YMCA so I can start exercising again. I really wanted to go today, but woke up with a sore throat so I'm trying to lay low and fight off an incoming cold. I don't want to be sick for Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving plans include lunch at my Grandma Dean's in Meridian with pie (and probably leftovers) at Rick's (Loren's dad's). Then on Saturday we're having lunch at Robin's (Loren's mom's). I'm off Monday and Tuesday so Loren can work and then I'll probably go in Wednesday and Friday. Although I'm not sure how much actual work I'll get done because I need to spend a significant amount of time on homework! Oh the cost of procrastination. :)

I started this post anticipating that Addie would wake up by now, but I still have a quite house. So I'm going to attempt a few more pics.

For my birthday Sean and Erin invited us to stay with them in Sun Valley, and my dad, Denise, Samantha, and her friend Lulu joined us as well. I wasn't the best about taking pics (I was enjoying my knitting time while Addie played with Pappy too much), but Sam borrowed my camera Saturday and took some pics:

Denise.
Lulu and Samantha.
Some of the scenery in town.

Here's some artwork Sam snuck some pics of in a local studio.

Addie had a great time being the center of attention, and loved playing with Pappy, Uncle Sean and Aunt Erin, and Sam and Lulu.
She also loved the delicious no-bake cookies Denise brought (as did I!).

Some pics Erin took after dinner.

What a goofball!

I was trying to get a picture of the new hat I made her (that she mostly refuses to wear).
Here's the back of our condo.

My dad (Pappy).
Some more pics Samantha took.

On Sunday we went to breakfast at the Kneadery.
Hmm, Addie in another giant chair.
Looks like we have a poser!

We went to the local bookstore and Addie sat at the little kid table. I just thought she looked so studious!

Okay, sounds like it's time to go. I promise I'll update sooner next time. :)
